Hi,
I'm going to remove the passenger airbag so I can fit the van dash trim which sadly doesn't appear to use one.
Do I need to reprogram the ECU to delete the airbag from the system, using the Diagbox software, or can it just be unplugged to be removed and decommissioned?
Thanks.

Good spot CC. Yes the resistor had to be around 3 ohms and connected with the battery off, then reconnect and it should assume the airbag is present. But the car SRS system will have outputs for each airbag so you can't just tell it there's one less with Diagbox. It will know how many it should have. I'd leave that alone if I were you. MOT heartache could follow.
If you have to, then use a 3 ohm resistor at 1w from RS and plug it into the airbag plug with the battery off, then reconnect the battery and it should be fine.
I've done this in a Proton Satria and a Citroen XM and both times, worked perfectly.

I'm not 100% sure why, but they are often sold online with a fuse. Maybe it's to stop any potential wiring fire from a short via the resistor in case the airbag is fired. In any case, similar to @zion above I used one in my M59 to get around a problem when I swapped the passenger seat from one with an airbag to one without.
