Greetings - 2004 berlingo - No dash no start
#1
Hello all;

I'm having a wee problem
Citroen berlingo 2004 1.9 diesel manual.
ignition barrel broke; changed it - old key transponder put into new key. At the key place [timpsons] they say key transponder is giving a signal.

Since the barrel swaptoday, all dash display lights off including mileage; engine turns over. but will not start.
When I turn on headlights, mileage count comes up but no glowoplug lights or dials functioning.

Thought of BSI reset but discovered electric windows won't work as well.

Had look at a few fuses that seemed relevant.

recent history - radio display gone dim; dipped beams went off replaced bulbs; then one day the car wouldn't open with remote. Had to get RAC to open car; after that the barrel became hard to turn key.

Am going to get a friend to help me do BSI reset and maybe clean connections but apart from that stumped

Can't comment too far into what could be wrong, without a Diagbox scan and proper codes but to try the BSI reset when the windows won't work, roll the drivers door lock into the closed position using a screwdriver blade, then do the rest of the reset. The BSI will be signalled that the door is closed when it isn't as the lock transmits the status, not a pin switch like other cars.

It sounds like you have more than one fault. The stuck barrel doesn't link with the other stuff and those issues sound like a major electrical issue like a bad engine fusebox controller or a corrupted BSI.

Did you get a jump start prior to this happening, as people often hook the jump leads up wrongly since the Citroen live terminal has a black cable instead of red, but it's still negative earth like other cars - which can blow the brains out in the BSI or the engine bay fusebox & ECU.

Also unlike other cars there is only one ignition position, so you're not actually putting the "ignition on", the key just signals the BSI to put the main systems on, which is very different to other cars.

I can look out some schematics for main ignition and post them here.

There are also main master fuses under the top tray of the fusebox, one does the actual BSI and if blown, the BSI will be dead until it's replaced. I have to look out the M59 documentation.
