Locking car with boot open?
#1
Does anyone know if there's any way to lock the car but leave the tailgate open?

I have a big dog crate in the back and would like to be able to leave the boot open for ventilation but not leave the doors unlocked.

Cheers.

It may be possible to disconnect the wires from the tailgate central locking but I have no idea what effect this may have on the rest of the system.

You do have to have the tailgate quite wide open for it to register as unlocked (certainly on the Mk1), so you could possibly wedge it open a little way for ventilation.
Now an ex Berlingo owner, I have a C4

Previously - 2002 (M49) Berlingo Multispace 2.0 HDi Diesel - Arctic Steel

Got this on line from 'Canine Kennels' they are made in various lengths, quite a few companies now make various different types and lengths, some fit ordinary van doors as well.

Have a look at: wwwventlock.com

The hook end needs to be screwed right up to make sure it is a tight fit.
Metal to metal ensures that central locking still works.

On my MK2 if you *lowered the rear door ALMOST down stopping JUST before the Latch engaged, pressed central locking you could then open the rear door back up again and all the other doors were locked!
This also worked on a friends MK1.

*DOG THIEVES ARE EVERYWHERE, NEVER LEAVE CAR UNATTENDED IF YOU DO THIS!

Lock the car as normal then unlock the tailgate with the key . This should leave the car locked . open the tailgate as normal .

Well I have had mine for almost nine years, and I did not know you could open the tailgate like that!
I live and learn.

Thanks mate. I'd seen the ventlocks before, but I wasn't sure if they'd work because of not being able to lock with the boot open. I'll give them a go.

And it would take a brave thief to steal my 8 stone of dog! Wink

I don't think there's any way of opening the tailgate separately on a Mk3.

Open the tailgate, then lock the car.
Obviously the tailgate will not lock as it is open...
Or am I missing the point?Confusedcratch:
