[Engine] Cuts out
#1
Tongue
Cool Hi everyone,  I have recently purchased 2009 1.6 Citroen Berlingo 625 X HDI 90 Model.
Within a week it started irratic idling, soon after started to cut out at junctions. Suspected air in fuel line? Changed air filter fuel and oil filter  during this I discovered the hand primer pump had been removed, and  pipes crudely re-connected. Re- installed new hand primer with anti- reverse flow. Problem still persists when cold van will drive approx 5 miles without a problem, then irractic idling and cuts out. Restarts within 10 minutes drives Aprox 1.5 miles and stops this then continues. Left all night, restart it and will drive 5miles before reoccurring. I still personally think its dragging air in to the system. Am I missing something? Please help would be extremely appreciated.

Just an idea , why not try it with the fuel cap off. If Ok then the fuel cap is not letting air into the tank.
Sounds like fuel starvation but could be wrong.

Tried it, thanks but made no difference. I also believe air is entering fuel line somewhere. When I changed fuel filter it ran for approx 350 miles and started again.

the fuel system sucks fuel from the tank so any little leak will not show as a leak. There was a problem with the fuel filter lids at one time, they warped and allowed air in. One way is to insert a clear piece of tubing into the pipe where you can see if air is getting into the system before the filter or after it.

And just in case it's not air ingress, try disconnecting the MAF at the intake pipe and see if it stops doing this. If it then drives perfectly at all times, replace the MAF.

So does it only restart if you use the bleed pump? Or just starts again within 10 mins if you do nothing - if so then it isn't air getting in (it wouldn't bleed itself when stopped)
