Recently renewed all my engine and gearbox mounts, much better but I still have a little transmision slop which also shows as movement of the gearstick ( forward and back ) when coming off and onto the throttle.
Went under the bonnet today and removed the new gearbox mounting to take a closer look than I did first time around and found :
1/ The new rubber mounting was already showing signs of internal wear after only a thousand miles
2/ The steel sleeve that sits inside the rubber mounting was highly polished and probably a little worn on it's O/D
3/ The steel sleeve was also worn on it's I/D as was the locating pin it sits on ( sticks up vertically from the gearbox )
The wear in 2/ and 3/ has led to my new rubber mounting wearing prematurely
I will fit new parts when I get some ordered but in the meantime I made a temp repair / bodge
1/ I used a some high strength Loctite ( like a studlock but STRONGER ) to " glue " the pin O/D to the sleeve I/D
2/ I also used some steel shim wound around the sleeve O/D to make the sleeve a nice tight fit inside the worn rubber mounting.
Result !!! so much better and no more transmission slop / gearstick movement.
Hopefully the above will be of use to someone
