Powerfold wing mirror teardown

Hi guys, one of my powerfold wing mirrors had damaged outer plastics but still electrically and mechanically functions.

I've stripped it down and removed the outer plastics but it's impossible to remove the plastic shroud around the mounting base without separating the hinge section.

This looks like it must be possible as the retention sleeve that the spring bears against is keyed and does move.

I suspect it may need to be compressed to allow it to be undone. Likely no one has tried this, but if you don't ask you don't get.

I've replaced the outer shells, heated glasses and complete mirrors but never tried to dismantle the mounting part.
