seat belts locked adter crash
#1
Hi all

Seat belts all locked with steering airbag deployed, purchased crashed B9 2016. Can seat belts be saved or do I need to buy replacements? Is there something I can unlock myself? I know cars have a pyro that gets blown which needs a professional service, but wondering if its the same with the berlingo

thanks

Hi buddy,

Yep, the SRS system will have blown the pyros in the seat belt buckle ends so they will all need replaced. Also you will not be able to code this yourself, afaik the SRS Airbag controller will need to be reset by Citroen.

After 2015 models, all config functions for the engine ECU and safety systems were moved online, so even with your own copy of Diagbox you can't do it. I've tried to code other stuff recently and it doesn't work anymore on the model I have now (2017).

Hi, thanks for the response. I thought as much and have ordered a used full front set and the steering bag.

That second paragraph wasn't expected! I was hoping to send off airbag module to a crash data reset company, as a worst case scenario. Whilst hoping to do it myself with a ebay diagnostic tool. I'll remove the module for the make / part number and see if a third party can do it before succumbing to dealership costs.

You may find an independent company can reset it but you won't be able to do it yourself without the authorisation access. Likely they (indy) will be doing it by the back door method of reading the eprom to get the VIN and as erial numbers out of it then writing a new file without crash data but with your vehicle details. Maybe they would need to fit a new eprom.

You can't code anything on a 2016 Berlingo without a Citroen dealer or a registered independent Citroen garage who have a PSA account and access to the real Diagbox & ServiceBox system.

It used to be possible to do it with a kit off eBay but that's no longer possible on the EDC17C10 to 60 ECUs. (which is what you have)

I had hoped to avoid the online only diagnostic stuff with a 2016 van of all vehicles!

Yes I did see a method of desoldering the chip to read and write with a prog software. Prices arent too bad if they're able to do it. I cleared crash data on a similar year Mercedes with a diag tool so it's funny to be I cannot do the same with a van.

Do you know if a second key is able to be coded with any of the diagnostic tools or does it need online access too?

Same again. And you need the security PIN code from when the van was new. Citroen systems are complex. One of the hardest. I'm in a group of engineers trying to break the CAN bus protocol and it has taken some talented programmer's a few years to get even close. There are 5 different CAN buses of various speeds, and VAN buses on some older models. Then there is the LIN bus for alternators and DPF pumps. These are no pushover.

You wont knock this one over with a scan tool.

Getting the PIN will be difficult, heard sometimes they may give it for free otherwise a payment is required after given them the required docs.

I'm new to Citroen systems and finding it quite annoying, after coming from VAG vehicles where everything was so simple.

Good luck with the can bus work, I assume you'll be able to develop a high demand product should you breakthrough?

Thanks mate. I hope to have something to release this year.

The PIN is never free, but Citroen will supply it for around £50 if you have ID and proof of ownership (V5 in your name) and apply via a dealer.

I came from VAG to Citroen too and it's nothing like using vagcom, almost everything is undocumented and what is documented, is in French as are all internal stuff. The closest you will get is buying ServiceBox in VMWARE format, which will get you diagrams, schematics and parts lists but only valid up to 2013 vehicles. Beyond that isn't accessible.

That will be pretty close to what yours is like. But not identical. Citroen change lots of little things and it's never documented.

I intend to make a much more accessible alternative to DiagBox, as the original is a nightmare to install and a total pig to use.
