Sounds like a dying bearing someplace,
Best check your cambelt in case one of the pulleys, or water pump is about to destroy the engine.

But if you are lucky, ancillaries, alternator, tensioner pulley, etc.
Some diesels, eg 1.6 hdi have a freewheeling pully on the alternator, can these make noise?
A horrible grinding/ ringing noise I had years ago was a departed clutch disc shock spring that got caught in the bellhousing & was merrily lathing itself against the outside of the flywheel. A Lidl's endoscope might give you some joy.

Got a full service set to be safe.
This one had a free wheeling pulley, replaced with fixed one
Clutch would prolly make a constant or close to constant noise. Have a rather new clutch.

Full service cured it. Water pump belt gear ground into housing..the only thing with physical damage. All belts, pulleys and tensioners seem fine.
