Immobiliser light on and not recognising key
#1
Question
Hi guys!!

I've got this growing problem where more and more often the car is not rocognising the key and the immobiliser light will come on.
I have to take it out a few times sometimes and eventually it will accept my key!

Have changed the key battery which now operates central locking further away but still have this problem growing with the immobiliser!

Any thoughts or ideas?

Plus still have an issue with the door sensor showing that the drivers door is not closed but will try to spray the locks soon with electrical cleaning fluid to see if that helps.

Thanks, Graham.

You will probably have to get the system re-programmed by an approved repairer. It may be that your car had a key change earlier in it's life and the old code wasn't correctly wiped/overwritten. My repairer did the job for around 20 quid.
Also be very, very careful which solvent you spray into the lock assy. Be sure that the one you use doesn't attack plastic.

Yes, the key light comes on 50% of the time and there is a beep!!
Also I've noticed the hazard light and rear demister light flickering when I remove the key after running the engine. Recently the battery light stayed on and most of the instruments were operational but that has stopped (hopefully) as the car would not lock.

Have cleaned door electrics with electrical cleaner, so far ok but proof in the pudding would be over the next few days!
Crossed fingers!

Key light still lighting 50% of the time, if you quickly turn the key back and forth it will clear itself and you can turn the engine over.

BSI reset done, no signs of anything changing.
