Hat shelf
#1
Has anyone made their own shelf to have behind the backseats?
Thinking to make my own to reduce some backwheel noise.
If anyone made their own or have picture of original that would be helpfull.
They seem to be rare here or expensive. Mine came without ️?

Never heard the expression "hat shelf" but if you mean the folding cargo area cover, then yes they were in both the B9's I owned. Most people take them out all the time they own the vehicle and put them back to sell, I don't think mine reduced noise significantly. There are a few on eBay for around £110 but suggest not to pay that much, just wait for one come up cheaper on this site, eBay, or FB marketplace

If you want to reduce wheel well road noise, you're better off sticking sound deadening in around the wheel arches behind the plastic panels. They are relatively simple to remove to gain access to both sides, but you will likely need to replace the panel clips that hold them in place when you refix them as they usually grenade themselves upon removal.

This is the stuff I used on mine:

I suppose it makes as much sense as "parcel shelf" (I really never put parcels there) and "glove box" (never needed a box for my gloves) - probably a literal translation of the Norwegian term for it.

Yes, I took mine out and stored it and replaced it with a roll up cloth one so I am thinking if you can get a heavy duty sound deadening cloth that might help. However, changing the tyres so there was more rubber on the rims made an enormous difference as did adding some more sound absorbing carpet to the floor of the rear.  One last thing, for some reason not having the spare underneath has made a difference too - possibly because the wire frame wheel support used to twang like a piano string. lol
Make life easier - go automatic. Cool

Ours is the M59 and has the roller blind type luggage cover. I don't think it stops much noise but I have found it gets louder when I put the back seats down. I put an extra layer of mat down and I think that helps as well
So where does this bit go then ?

Looking at the OPs location, it looks like he is in Norway, so that's why probably there aren't many around in his location and probably those that are are very expensive hence he wants to make a hat shelf/parcel shelf/load cover [delete as applicable Wink ]
I'll get out a tape measure and measure my shelf up if you are still after the dimensions?

We made one for a Vauxhall using MDF, it was to hold a couple of speakers in my daughter's car and worked well. It was measured up and cut out with a jigsaw then covered in carpet.
So where does this bit go then ?
