My K9 windscreen has damage and a long crack from a storm and needs replacing. I have the upper centre camera/driver's aid thing which means it'll be more expensive to buy and fit I think.
I need to look and see if my insurance will cover it but can't initially access the details on my policy but I think anyway I have a 500 Euro excess.
Any idea roughly what a replacement should cost? UK or Europe costs are ok for an estimate.

I took out an insurance policy about eight years ago which is renewed every year automatically. I get a letter telling me how much it will be and check if it is still a good deal. It has been so far but the last time I looked at the details of it was when I first took it out. Now I can't remember for sure what the excess is and as I'm in a different country and my paperwork is at home, plus I don't have an online account I'll need to phone them to be sure. The excess is a lot which makes me doubt my memory is correct.

You are talking loads of money.
Just do it on insurance and you will need to take it to a specialist screen replacement shop as the screens require calibration due to the cameras.

Mark, I dont know how it works in Germany but in the UK the excess for windscreens isnt usually linked to the normal claim excess. The excess on our insurance is £250 but our windscreen excess is £100 and as above doesnt affect our no claims bonus.
I think you need to be askinga simple question of your insurance - what is the windscreen excess - do this before you even mention that you need a new windscreen

Yes, thanks. I think the key as you say will be to find out from the insurance company. I now have seen a shortened version of the info but nothing about windscreens. It is usual I think to have that as you say but never having made a claim in Germany I have no experience. In the UK I used to have a no claims bonus and the windscreen protection that wasn't part of the no claims but I'm away from Germany at the moment and do need to get in touch with them.

If you are out of UK your insurance may only offer minimum cover meaning you only have 3rd party and will not have screen replacement cover.
So where does this bit go then ?

True, thanks. Funnily enough I've just managed to get in touch with the insurance company this morning, it's a German car and German insurance, who tell me I don't lose my no claims but have an excess of 400 Euros on screen replacement and 500 Euros for anything else.
I think I ought to shop around when it comes up for renewal again.
