Internal rear barn door release addition guide
#1
If anyone would like to add a rear barn door internal opening handle, here's what you need to get and do:

Get a front passenger door lock release mechanism and internal door handle.

First off you need to release the outside door handle, there will be a plastic disk on the inside edge of the door which when removed will allow a torx key to be engaged with the lock release to allow you to pull the key barrel(or blank if it's not got an actual key lock) from the handle unit. Once that's out you can release the door handle, there's another torx screw to remove once you've got the handle out the way and that will allow the whole handle unit to be pulled away from the internal void of the door. Then you can access where the release cable attaches to the handle unit and swap it over to the twin cable unit from a front passenger door and then fit the door release handle in the mounting position as shown

No doubt there's an unobtainium factory trim piece that fits in where the plain fibre board panel normally goes, but I'm sure it wouldn't be that much of a ball-ache to rig something up to do the job effectively.

That is genius.

It seemed to be a recurrent query on the FB groups, so I did some digging and found that schematic. It seemed straightforward but didn't show how the lever was supposed to be mounted so I compared the door internals and low and behold there it was clear as day. No use to me, but hopefully the rest of the group will benefit

And also applicable to K9 owners, as the rear doors are identical to B9 models

Upon further research it appears the K9 comes with the rear door release as standard, so it's likely that the door card trim to provide the opening for the handle will be easily bought from PSA. No idea what the part number would be.

To follow on from the post above, if the K9 uses the same doors would it be possible to buy whatever is fitted to the K9 door to provude an internal opening mech and fit it to a B9?

Couldn't see why not, although the core parts may well be much more expensive from a K9 due to age, or lack thereof. The door card also seems to be as rare as hens teeth second hand. The cheaper option would be grabbing the B9 front passenger door gear and knocking up a ply blank I reckon

The rear door cards for the B9 are indeed rare as gold hens teeth and cost a fortune new from PSA, mine are damaged and I went to get new ones, £80 each side it was or something like that. I have the part numbers somewhere.

The originals are bloody compressed paper board so they are as robust as kitchen roll. Better to cut blanks from 5mm (or less) waterproof MDF or ply, and do it that way. Add the locking hole as per the front door card template as James says.

The fixing plugs won't go through thicker stuff.

Here's the part numbers for all variants of the factory rear barn door trims. The internal rear door release cards are plastic instead of the compressed fibre board of the plain ones.
