[Engine] Emissions Related Issue
#1
Hi,

Although the car is running well and has good fuel consumption, for some time I have had a number of fault codes show when accessed with Diagbox (attached). The car has been recently passed a MOT and emissions are within allowances.

Thinking that a dirty EGR valve maybe the cause have removed and thoroughly cleaned it (its the original Valeo unit), it wasn't very dirty. It still brings up these codes, even after resetting a few times.

I may just leave it as its running OK with no pollution alarm but it would be nice to know the probable cause. Any thoughts gentlemen?

Don’t know about on here but on the Peugeot forum some people going through same thing. Know easy answers from what I can gather. Some have replaced egr which has cured it, others still have faults after replacement. If it’s all running ok wouldn’t worry about.

The codes all point to a sticking EGR. Too much airflow = more MAF airflow than there is meant to be, when the EGR is supposed to be open. The rest of the codes are EGR too closed, EGR stuck position signal, and the old P1351 which just about every one has, glow plug relay supplied but glow plugs not supplied.

As said if it runs and you don't have an eml then take it as a win. But the B9 will eventually flag an eml for EGR flow issues. Then you will have to fix it.

Thanks Zion. Its £150 for a decent EGR valve plus the hassle of fitting it and possible programming. I'll think I'll wait until I get some symptoms before changing (other than just these codes).

Yeah I would too. Come MOT time if the light is on then it's worth fixing it but not until then.

As Zion has said. I had similar errors although 1.6HDi M59, but I suspect not that dissimilar engine. Nothing worked until I replaced the EGR with Hella 6 years ago. The old Valeo EGR was somewhat broken, the upper part had a few let's say wobbly electronic components. I do not think any cleaning would have fixed it. For a good measure the air box had drilled a hole in said upper electronic part, I am sure that contributed to the wobbly electronic components Smile

I had the same error as yours. The problem was in the bearing inside
EGR. As the EGR spins to open/close , after some miles carbon passes
to bearing and bearing wears out. When you spin the EGR by hand you
can feel that bearing "skips", it does not go smooth as it should.

After fitting after market and the same happed 1 year later, ended up
reprogramming ECU to disable EGR. Never regraded since.
