Engine wont start. Electronics flickering and window wippers stay on
#1
Hello All,

Hope you're doing well Smile

First time post for me. I'm having a problem that I can't solve!

I have a 2014 Citroen Berlingo and I replace the engine recently after my timing belt went in the last one (RIP). Since been replaced, I have driven it around fine for about 600kms. Then one day as I was driving around a corner the wipers came on and wouldn't come off (They do when the car is turned off). Drove home and I found when starting it again it would power the dash and turn over but then cut out all power after a second or two and have relay clicking. This is the same when trying to crank it over. It will crank for the second it is on the stop with everything else. I was able to roll start it and it was fine and drive it (except for having the wiper still going).

It has a new battery and I've checked fuses in the engine bay. I checked the earth connections to the gearbox and starter and they appeared fine. I tested the started motor by bridging the power to the trigger and it seemed to be rolling over the engine fine.

So scratching my head now. Cheers for any help

Sounds like the battery monitor module thinks the battery is fooked, have you checked the little block fuses on top of the battery clamp cover, and the main MF fuses under the top tray in the engine bay?

The battery voltage monitor is on that clamp cover.

Usually stuck wipers and lights on during cranking is low battery voltage. Also check your cables, clamps and end points including the neg earth.

F1 on the battery cover is the monitor fuse.

Did you bolt the battery down and secure the main earth cables when the new engine went in?

Sounds like this is to blame.

Found the culprit. Went back and double check all the earths and noticed the one to the chassis was loose and looked to be getting hot! Fixed the wire and tightened it up and all working as normal.

Thanks for the help Zion.

Excellent, glad to hear that's all it was.
