2010 Berlingo van high level stop light.
#1
Good afternoon

I noticed the other day that my high level stop light (in van door) wasn't working. Seeing the two plastic nuts inside it looked like a simple job but I cannot remove the light to access bulb/s! Is this a common problem or is there a secret to removal? I tried gently prying with a flat blade but it just felt like something was going to snap. Any help/advice would be appreciated .

TIA.  Andrew ...

Mine was hard to get out too.Just been seated so long I suppose. Don’t no if it’s possible to break but mine came out with a pop after working at it!

What you need to do is remove the two plastic nuts to expose the light unit studs, then get a block of wood wide enough to push against both of the studs, and push firmly against both, whilst keeping one hand on the other side so you can push against the outer face of the door. By doing that you can coerce the light unit out and also stop the unit from flying out when it is freed

Or use a plastic pry tool. You can also release one clip from inside by hand but the other is impossible (nearest the door edge) so get a plastic body tool under the outside and pry it out. They're stiff but do come out. The bulb is a big fat capless pixie lamp. Like a giant sidelight.

Beware of prying on the outside as the border is very thin. I did but luckily had a tube of super glue handy for the repair!  Blush Cool

No not like that mate, push a thin plastic body pry upwards and it releases the clip. You can feel when you are under the clip as opposed to the main body as it sticks out at the clip section. Push up and it releases like magic. Didn't explain very well the first time. I've had mine out loads of times.

(Ooh matron, behave!)

An old bank card or AA card would also work, pushed up near the RHS end as looking at it from behind. Doesn't damage it at all, obv don't pry the acrylic cover itself.

See the tool and the clips here: (none on the top side)
