Electric hook up for beginners...
#1
Hello everyone

I have my UK electric hookup purchased which I have yet to use. Heading to France in July. I have heard there is a secondary European party I need.
Can someone with experience of this tell me if it's true and what I need, if anything.

Thanks

Are you talking about the type of electric hook up that you use at campsites?

If so, then yes you might need an adapter. While many campsites have the modern type plug that is standard as in the lead set below

some still have the older style euro type plug, so an adapter like one in the link below is required

For the sake of about £5, it's worth carrying the adapter lead. I've found that quite a few of the smaller 'Camping Municipal' sites [sites run by local councils] as they tend to be lower price they often have the older type plugs that require the adapter.

If your mains connecter does not warn of or manage reversed polarity connection I would also purchase a plug-in 13A mains socket checker for your campsite connection as some continental sites had reversed live and neutral connections.

Best to check it before plugging in your appliances.

I carry a second connector in which I reversed the polarity and marked the socket so to tell which is which. You can buy pre-wired polarity changers for those who prefer the safest option rather than making an adapter by re-wiring one themselves.

Lots of information on reversed polarity is available on websites esp. from camping, caravan, motorhome club sites.
