Hi, pretty sure my altenator has gone on my berlingo, the local wreckers yard have 3 that have come off diesals while mine is petrol . Will this make a difference any one ? Cheers Thomas

They are geared or designed for different engine speeds, although I think the diesel alternator would output more current.

The output from the diesels' alternator could be different but is not a problem . It could be mounted on the opposite side of the engine from the petrol one ,different mounting brackets, the pulleys might be different (v against ribbed,3 or 5 ribs) and different sizes. Its best to take your old one or photos and physically check against what they have. Check the output of your old one first with a meter, could save a lot of trouble if you change them over and still have the same fault.

Check on line with motor factors like Halfords, GSF, Europarts and see if the have different reference numbers for petrol and diesel versions of your Berlingo. If the numbers are different ( on the same site ) then there is a difference in specific alternators per engine size/type.
