heater only warm
#1
hello all,
problem with the heater in my 2007 pug 1.6hdi partner escapade combi.
heater will not get hot enough even after a decent run.
jobs done so far to try and resolve this
new thermostat, renewing at the same time the coolant with coma super red,
disconnected the heater matrix and flushed through to ch[/size]eck for blockage,
non found.
on running the engine the heater hoses get hot before the thermostat opens and rad starts to heat through at around 80 deg.
run engine at 2500 revs and the fan cuts in at around 92 deg.
looking at the manual there is an aux inline heat unit on the pipe leading from the thermostat to the heater I have checked and this is fitted to my motor with wiring connected to it .
there are no switches or display about it only a mention in the hand book to say (vehicels which are fitted with an hdi engine may have fitted automatic additonal heating to improve comfort).
is there any way to check this is working?.
sorry to ramble, hoping someone may have some help.

thanks to the many who have posted some great articles and information .

Jim.

hello Andy ,
thanks for the reply.
I have bled the system, due to the bleed screw on the heater pipe by the bulkhead being higher than the header tank I made an extension pipe and fitted this to the header tank in order to keep the coolant level above the bleed screw once all air had escaped and coolant flowed from bleed screw the extension pipe was removed and coolant level checked.

Hello,
Set to in the garage and stipped the automatic heater unit out of the car once on the bench there are 4 glow plugs fitted in it each glow plug is 400w giving 800w total .
I have checked each one and got a reading of approx 0.9to0.1 ohms on each so all good as a double check I put a supply to each and they glowed red.
when engine cold there is no live feed so it could be that it has not been enabled from new.
Is this a dealer job or something that can be done another way.
The location is just behind the battery mount and gearbox.
I have some pictures of heater but files to large to attach can email should anybody require them
I will continue to try and resolve this issue and will update

Regards Jim.
