NON STARTER

PLEASE HELP!
My 2002 2.0 hdi berlingo wont start turns over but wont fire been dead for 2 weeks this is whats been going on.
about four weeks ago it started to run lumpy then died, RAC man said no fuel pressure, so i changed fuel filter (a few metal filings in it ) and it ran without a hitch for a week.
then without warning on a trip to the shops it wouldnt start so pushed it to the garage conveniently placed across the road, he replaced glow plugs and tested fuel shut off valve which was ok (still no start).
He said it was throwing up lots of codes which took him several attempts to clear (not much help I know) but he couldnt get an auto electrician out so I towed it back home,
I changed crank sensor and cam sensor and im getting a spurt of fuel when injector is cracked open.
there are no fault lights on dash and it runs on easy start,
engine is usually very lively full of power and starts on first turn of key.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

Hi there, to me it sounds like fuel pump in the tank had smell problem on a 406 height a few years ago with metal filings in filter so I got pump from scrap yard and cost £25, like I say it sounds like it on my past experiences but investigate further first before throwing money at it
Also ignore the mistakes in my post eg. Smell and height, its this bloody predictive text on my phone lol

hi thanks for reply
fuel smells pretty normal
it was running ok on the same fuel for several days before i dont think it would just suddenly refuse to start like this but worth checking out thank you.

well had an auto electrician out today he says it has an open circuit on the fuel flow regulator so he needs to take it into his garage and trace the wires back to the ecu.
I am now worried about getting a big bill.

Hi Degsyboy,

did you get anywhere with this. You have very similar symptoms to my problem, only mine occurded when I removed the battery and reconnected the following morning. Still not running after 3weeks.

RAC man should have been able to say if your engine timing was synchronising or not, saving on crank and cam sensors. What DTC codes came up? You may have a faulty rail pressure sensor but that would throw up an engine warning light, which I'm guessing you've not got.

Do you know if you have a Siemens or Bosch fuel pump.
