You could dismantle the cab lever assembly and check that the cable is broken or maybe the nipple has just come of.
if the break is at the release lever, grab the inner in a pair of pliers and pull it. If the break is at the other end I'm not
sure how you could open the bonnet but I'm sure someone here will be able to answer that.

Maybe fiddle with a screwdriver between grill would release the catch im unsure but thats the route i would take if it happened to me

I Have managed to fix the bonnet problem on the berlingo, the cable outer had come away from the guide bracket at the engine comp end.\i managed to open the bonnet lock by pulling on the inner and outer cable together this thankfully released the catch otherwise it would have been a nightmare job, I have added a pull cord to the latch in case it happens again.

Ive recently bought one with the cable completely off the bonnet clasp and i discovered you can undo the clasp by hand from underneath the van. you cant see what you are doing so it may be best to try and get a look at another one with the bonnet open so you will know what you are feeling around for. if you cant get a look, the bit you push goes to the drivers side and top of clasp opens to the passenger side. best of luck

This sounds like what I need to know. My bonnet release cable isn't working from inside the car. the cable is moving somewhere as I can hear it but it certainly isn't opening the catch! So where am I sticking my arm up underneath to release the catch? I can't seem to find any way to the underside of the bonnet.
