Berlingo Keyfob transponder chip
#1
I water damaged my keyfob and now the lock / unlock buttons no longer work although I still need to start the Van because of the transponder chip.
I was looking at buying a replacement fob with a new circuit board and unsoldering the old programmed ID46 transponder chip from the faulty pcb and replacing on the new pcb. I have an electronics background so no problem doing this but will it work or has anyone attempted before.
Thanks.

Does the old damaged key still start the van?
IIRC, the transponder chip is a separate item in the fob, not actually connected to the remote.

Yes it does. The transponder chip is soldered on the pcb.

Sorry, having looked at some pictures of the B9 fob I can see what you mean. The M59 key fobs have a separate transponder chip that can be transferred to a new fob.

I have that kind of key, where it's a coil (fake transponder) connected to a chip.

That may work, as long as you don't just move the copper coil component as it's obviously just an inductor. But as you say if like me you're in the electronics game then you'll realise that. I reckon the ID46 would be easy to move if your soldering skills are up to par.

What you can try first, since these fobs are conformally coated and pretty waterproof, is put the key in, turn the ignition on, don't start, press and hold the lock button for 10 seconds, you should hear a double beep from the dash. This resets the rolling seed code between the central locking (Comm2k & BSI) and the key. It may then lock and unlock again.

Worth a try.

Finally got to try what Zion suggested but did not work.
I also got the new PCB and swapped over the transponder and ID46 chip from the old PCB and that did not work.
Van would not start either.
I am not sure what i'm missing.
I put the transponder back on the old PCB and now at least the Van starts manually.
