Hi everyone,
My name is Seamus and I live in France not far from Saumur. I bought my RHD Berlingo Enterprise new in Jersey C.I. December 2010. To date it has done about 74,000km or about 45,000 miles. It has given no trouble and the only things changed have been tyres, brake pads and a new battery. The a/c works fine and has never been re-charged. I moved to France at the end of 2018. It did about 2,500 miles a year in Jersey all start and stop stuff below 40mph. Since moving to France, my usage has increased and it seems to go better with trips to Spain, Portugal and Ireland.
The first issue manifested itself in a heatwave last year. The left indicator would not work in high temperatures. If the weather is very hot the left indicator will play up most of the time. In cold weather, it never malfuntions.
The second issue was last week. I have a habit of frequently using the button that shows fuel consumption and is used to reset the use of the inbuilt information system in PSA cars. It is on the wiper control arm. Last week, it went a bit crazy and set off the rear wiper wash mechanism and drained the reservoir. I took the cover off the rear wiper motor on the back door and disconnected it. If I touch the said button on the wiper control arm, it straight away sends a jet of wiper fluid down the back window.
This Berlingo of mine is now coming up to 13 years old. I think it is time to also change the timing belt. I check it visually every month and I cannot see any visual deterioration. The mileage is still low but I do hear of horror stories.
I am not a mechanic. I think the 1st and 2nd issues are connected. However, I think the controls in the steering wheel mechanism are awol and needs fixing or replacing. I write this short note to see if you oracles of knowledge on this forum might have some experience of this issue.
Have any you forum members had this issue with a B9 or with the sister PSA cars/vans that use the same steering wheel control arms?
Once I have an idea what I am dealing with, I will make decisions on getting the work done. Stripping the steering wheel leaves me uncomfortable.
I fully intend to keep this B9 for another good few years.
