1.8 petrol cambelt failure

Hi, wonder if anyone can help. I have a 1998 1.8 petrol Berlingo. It made a griding noise and threw the cambelt. The belt is not broken but there is water coming out of the engine from the water pump area. Not sure how that happened but I need to know if they bend the valves when the belt breaks and what was the cause of the damage. Any advise would be very welcome. Jon.

Hi, would of thought that the failure is due to the water pump collapsing. As for bending of valves - a look under the rocker cover should show signs. Good luck.Confusedalut:
