[Engine] Engine running on
#1
Hi,
I have a 2014 1.6hdi 625 van. The last few days the engine has been running on for approx 5 mins after coming hame from work.
Could this be a carbon build up and if so how to sort or maybe some fuel injection fault.
All advise or help gratefully accepted.

Do you mean the fan is running on? If so that sounds like it's doing a dpf regent cycle

Thanks for reply.
Wasn't sure if the engine needed to be on for a regen. You know thrash motor for 20 miles of so. Roads around me up here are not really built for letting loose but great for reducing thickness of brake pads.

Do you have a idea of the length of the for the seven to complete??
Thks in advance

Hi,
Don't take this wrong but reading through this thread is confusing,  so let's clear it up.

What do you mean by " the engine has been running on for approx 5 mins"  . . .

. . . Do you mean, you turn off the engine with the key and the engine keeps on running as it was ?

Sorry, reading it back myself, it is confusing.
When I turn the engine off the fan keeps running for approx 5 mins.
Sorry for confusion.
I did find an earlier post relating to the cooling fan relay.

Hi there.

Fans running on means you stopped the engine when it was in the middle of a DPF regeneration. It's not a fault, it's normal behaviour when a regen is interrupted. Nothing to do with the fan relay, so nothing to worry about.

Thrashing it has no effect either, the regen is a controlled procedure based on sensor values and you can't bring it on yourself.

Thks Zion, jj9 and jemselectrical, set my mind at rest.
Never really thought thrashing yer motor to get it to work properly was the cleverist idea.
