P1338 Fault code.
#1
Hi all, I did try a search, but could not see one here.

P1338 COMBUSTION CYLINDER NUMBER 2.

So last year around 45k ish, my 2020 van (1.2 pure tech) would go into limp mode, after a few turns of the key and waiting, would reset and let me drive. Then I had to call out RAC, they swapped spark plugs 1&2, all clear for about a month. I had a full service and replaced all four plugs (52k), problem gone for about a year.

Problem is back. This time I changed all four plugs again and x1 coil pack, lasted about a week, problem has returned. I bought a OBD2 reader from RS to clear the code so I can drive, sometimes it takes many attempts, but once driving, no issues. ECO on or off makes no difference.

Having now searched online, it seems this is a common issue but I could not find a set answer, many have spent a fortune on new plugs/coil packs/injectors to no avail. One guy changed that lot and four sensors (pre cat/after cat/crankshaft/camshaft), seemed to get about 3 months driving but no follow up to the thread. Seems later Berlingos list the camshaft sensor as part of the coil pack system?

Got to book it back into the garage, every time I get in I have to hear that insane beeping & clear the code, driving me mad, any ideas appreciated please, compression test was healthy.

I've moved your thread to the K9 section, which is the model of van you have. B9 ended in 2018.

Here is the official description of that code and the tests: (not a whole load of help but maybe a bit)

I had not seen that pdf, thanks for that, its a step at a time. I am hoping to call these guys later, they seem to list P1338 on their page, different car but not much. Carbon build up on intake valves as a possible solution.

They certainly look as if they know their way around a Citroen, please let us know how you get on. They could be a valuable resource for folk in that area of the country.

Excellent, it's not something we've heard of commonly (that code) but it sounds like a good solution.

In response to the opening post, I have had similar issue but it’s very intermittent.
The last time it happened was over a year ago, I haven’t had the issue since.

My car is also a 1.2 2020.

Please let the forum know how you got on.

Van has been with the garage for 2 days and has not shown the fault! Been doing it everyday for me. Will see what today brings, update later.
