Glowing
#1
There have been many posts regarding glow plugs, cold starting and uneven running issues.
A mechanic friend has told me today that some modern diesel engines use the glow plugs not only for cold starting, but to assist in engine 'warming-up' at all times.
Is this true of the Berlingo diesels?
If so, could this be the reason some of us have experienced 'uneven' and 'lumpy' running when the engine is cold, not just the weather?
And if the glow plugs are used for more than just a couple of seconds in the winter, premature wear and failure could result from this much increased usage.
You would not suspect the glow plugs being a problem in the summer; but could they be?
Just a thought....

After further 'research', it is true.
Some modern diesel engines have the glow plugs active for up to 3 minutes after starting.
