Diagbox: procedure terminated when trying to reset AdBlue-tank
#1
Hi,

First off, great forum - there is a lot of useful information around and people seem very helpful. For my specific case right now now I have not been able to find any info though. Sad

I bought a Berlingo K9 2020 recently and was under the impression from a previous owner that the Adblue system had been deleted. Well.. Already in my first 500 km I got the famous Adblue-system fault and the countdown begun. The problem is that Im not 100 % sure that the system has been deleted as this info comes from a previous owner than the one I bought it from.

I just got a Diagbox 9.91 to read the error codes and reset the AdBlue system so I can troubleshoot. Firing up Diagbox it says it cant connect/communicate with the Urea ECU.
- Is the Urea ECU the same ecu that is bundled with the NOX-sensor? Or is this a separate device?

When I read the fault codes I receive the two following two faults:
1. U029D 87 : Emissions control CAN network (downstream NOx sensor) characterisation of the fault : missing information
status : permanent

2. P2048 11 : Control of the urea injector characterisation of the fault : short circuit to earth
status : permanent

I have since before removed and cleaned the AdBlue injector but it doesnt seem to help, i will remove it again and try to connect to 12 V to see if it actuates properly.
Regarding the NOx sensor it seems like either the 12 V & GND line, CAN-line or sensor is faulty.
Allthough Im wondering - if the Adblue system has been deleted/mapped be the reason I see this fault?

Lastly, when I try to reset the system in Diagbox with either
Repair --> Spare part --> Replacement of the denox system reservoir, gauge-pump module or pipes
or
Service action --> Work on the Emission control circuit > Reinitialization of the denox systemD
Diagbox stops at the last stage with the message: "procedure terminated".

I'd like to think Im following the steps the right way but can't seem to do any service or repair action. Could this relate to not having contact with the Urea ECU or that the system might have been mapped already?

So to sum up my questions:
1. Is the Urea ECU the ecu that is connecting to the NOx-sensor? Might it be that I can't complete the service or repair action below because I can't communicate with this ECU?`
2. If the system has been mapped would that also prevent me from using these options in Diagbox?

The cable I have seems legit and Im able to read all other values without any problems.

Im a little bit stuck where to go next with this, any advice is highly appreciated. I've attached the report from Diagbox below.
I still have around 500 km to go before the van wont start. Smile

It may be the version of diagbox you are using.

A post by Zion may shed some light on your diagbox problems

Thank you for the input brodfather. This seems to be it as my Berlingo is 2020.

The only option I see then would be to either:
1. Pay for the token / PSA account each time I need to do any service action on the vehicle
2. Buy another diagnostic tool i.e. Topdon (2000 euros or more)

Even if I replace the NOx sensor and Urea injector which seems to be the faulty ones - I would still need to do the reset? Or will the system resume operation after only clearing the fault codes?

Tough luck for simple tasks - I guess Diagbox in my case can only be used to read sensor data and clear fault codes in this case.

You're correct now, on the PSA token being required every time but also you can't use the pirate eBay version with a real token, you need the proper unhacked version of Diagbox from PSA too. The hacked one for your vehicle can only read data and clear codes as you say. No configuration or parts replacement can be done.

You should be able to download it from them once you set up a trade (repairer) account with them. Don't know how they handle that now, you'd have to ask them. The site has changed a lot in the past 3 years.

The codes could be because parts have been removed or disabled, (badly it seems).

A remap where things are "deleted" requires a remap to enable them again if they are to respond or work again. The ECU software would have been edited. You can't really undo that yourself but sounds like it wasn't done correctly.

On the Adblue ECU, they can be separate and not bundled in with the injector, more likely part of the pump assembly on the urea tank electronics. Others are part of the engine ECU.

CAN bus communication error means the BSI (which does the diagnostic bridge function) can't speak to the urea ECU, wherever it is located. This could be powered down, missing, unplugged, many reasons.

Time to visit a professional auto electrician who knows the vehicle model. Maybe a waste of money buying a Topdon tablet then finding the parts have been disabled or are missing.

Finally, when the system is low on Adblue, you just top it up and it self resets automatically. Yours must be faulty if that didn't work. There's a float in the tank and it knows exactly how much is in there, unlike the Eolys system for the DPF where it guesses based on mileage and fillups.

Hi Zion,

Thanks Zion, that sums it up. Not fully knowing the history of the vehicle makes it a bit shady with replacing parts that wont even work e.t.c..

I was planning to go down the route of of getting a programmer and modifying the map myself (the ECU is a MD1CS003 and first half of 2020 so its not locked yet).
But considering that most Diagbox functionality is locked... Easier to find a local tuner or garage for newer vehicles.

Thanks for the input guys. Let you know how it goes.

Small update on this - I decided to try with the official Diagbox and got a token. Unfortunately I still have the same problem. Not possible to do any work on emission system and get "procedure terminated".
Im considering getting the Fetrotech tool to read the map from the ECU. Allthough Im uncertain if I still need diagbox to clear any faults or if I can do this straight in the map using fetrotech without having to use diagbox.
Continued investigation. Big Grin
