Just thought I'd post a cheap bonnet cable hack I put together when the cable broke at the handle inside the passenger side footwell.
Replacing the entire cable through the bulkhead and engine bay did not appeal.. . But seeing as the cable looked just like a bicycle brake cable with housing, I came up with a solution.
I cut the housing back using bike cable cutters (carefully! Don't want to cut through the cable as well) then installed an old bike brake caliper and secured with the fixing bolt as you would on a bike. Decided to mold some plastic around the whole thing to prevent it getting snagged by passengers feet or other things.
Quite pleased with how it turned out. And I've now sold my little van so I hope the next owner appreciates this ingenuity ?
