Diesel heaters
#1
Has anyone installed one of those things in their Berlingos?

I'm considering dropping a 2KW Vevor unit into my 2014 B9 electric.
(Running the aircon nearly halves the range, and it's not as if it has all that much to spare... )

It'll still end up using less than your M59... and be warmer...

Maybe swap for B for a LEVC taxi - they have a small petrol engine to top up the batts.

Seriously, adding a diesel heater is an intriguing idea. You'd possibly be the first to do it to an EV, so vid yourself doing it for YT.

And when you've added the diesel tank to power the heater, also add a small engine to top up the EV batts... maybe based on a standard 240V genny?

That doesn't stop it being ironic.  Tongue

Ironic or iconic, and is there any difference?

On a Berlingo?
Not really.

They're both iconic and ironic.

I like to point out that the registration papers on the MultiSpace lists the 'bodyshape' as 'Small Limousine' here in Norway...
(At least it did on my old M49)

I fitted a second hand Eberspacher in an ex MOD Land rover. It came out of a BT van apparently.
Fairly straight forward to fit although I just had it bolted to the passenger side floor and it had no ducting.
The exhaust was quite loud but I've seen you can get silencers for them

Finally got started on the process...

Decided to try fitting it where the rear passenger footwell would be on a MultiSpace. That area is under the floor and quite unused on my Van.

...

...

Getting the two passenger seats out is a PAIN!
Note for anyone else being stupid enough; you need a LONG T40 torx. A 3/8" ratchet with a couple of extensions and a T40 'socket' at the end is a good idea.
Then you need a 17mm I think, to remove the seatbelt from the side of the middle seat.
And there's some fiddly connectors under the outer seat.

While you're there, remember to throw out the old fix-a-flat bottle. That stuff expires after about 5 years.

The space under the floor is just high enough that the heater can be slid in on the side. That's not good... The air intake and exhaust is on the underside and really should point down.

Next is to find my boroscope and take a look under the 'floor' panel in the cubbyhole. I suspect there's plenty of room underneath it. (The 'smuggler' bays in the footwells)

I will need to cut open the floor in the back so that I can access it that way, too, for easier servicing. I'd really like the floor to be flat, and not have a hump to clear the heater. A hump in the floor is a 'last resort' solution.

I'll also be adding a 50Ah battery and charge relay so that the thing doesn't kill my utility battery.
(Battery and relay already purchased)

Pictures as soon as I know for certain whether or not it fits...

(except mine has the large 'pancake' tank with 3 bolt holes in the middle as the 3KW and 5KW version have, not the dinky one.)
