feed for rear interior led lights ?
#1
I have searched but find conflicting answers

09 tepee

can i take a feed off the current interior lights to feed a couple of led strip lights with no issues  ?

it would be handy if they came on when the doors open

or it it better to wire them independently on a switch to a separate 12v feed and earth ?

You can but will probably need to remove the original bulbs or they will stay on for ever with the ignition on.

cheers for the replies

why would the lights stay on permanently ?

i took out the rear interior light closest to the boot door and measured the three wires with a multimeter, green being earth, another 12v and the third 4 volts

the 4 volts confuses me

before i started i assumed this was wired like a vw caddy, constant 12v, constant earth and a switched earth from the doors

our Partner is a tepee zenith with the hideous centre roof console, its now in the garage along with the fan etc, this frees up the fan feed wires on the ceiling that can now be used to power another light if need be on a separate switch.

the downside is that the original middle light has lost it home so I definitely have to wire an led strip to its original wires with a 3 way switch to work when the doors open etc for passengers, so i need to identify the wiring to it

has anyone found a wiring diagram that covers this area of the partner/berlingo ?

many thanks

What's the RPO number of the vehicle? It's a five digit numeric code that's on the label in the driver's side door pillar.

Hi, The reason for the lights staying on, is it is wired nothing like the caddy. The BSI (Body Systems Interface) powers all lighting directly from it's outputs. No grounded switches or anything like that. It's all computer controlled.

Some of us have access to all official diagrams, that's why Jems asked for your RPO code (Jems - just put RPO 12345 if need be)

The BSI uses CANBUS and has bulb failure detection, so the weird 4v you found becomes pulsed at 8v if it's checking a bulb. If it finds a weird reading (LEDs for example) it switches that test voltage on and the bulb stays on for ever, regardless of switch position.

That's why we remove them if fitting LEDs .

The electronics on these cars are complex. You'll get a diagram soon enough, if Jems is getting it for you then I will leave him to post them.

Just better to pull the original bulb that's all, when putting LEDs in the rear load area. Wire them to the terminals occupied by the original bulb and it will work as intended with the bulb removed.

11684 is the 4th of November 2008 so that will be the correct number, as per your vehicle's build date.

10744 would be 9th of April 2006 so that's too early.

looked at the central light wiring

there are three, one earth and two others

one reads 12v when the door is open, the other reads résistance

can I wire a simple "on off on" switch and my replacement led light should work with doors open, constant on or off

thanks
