[Engine] Fumes still after 5months
#1
Hello

I have a 2018 B9 van with 54000 miles on it .In March of this year i started getting fumes in the cab.

So far i have had the head oil leak done , a new water pump fitted tightened every easy access cap and clip i can see .

Slowly the fumes have eased but im still getting a sore throat and an unpleasent taste after driving the van .

I have had the exhaust checked and it has no leaks .

If i accelerate hard i get an oil smell .

I have looked under and over for any signs of oil blow but can't see or touch any anywhere .

HELP ANYONE!!!!!

Is there anything i should be looking for , tightening or replacing . Other than the fumes the van runs perfect , it did 700miles on a full tank of diesel during a trip to Scotland and didn't miss a beat .

There can't be much wrong with it other that its causing me stress and throat issues .

Do any of you have any answers please

Rear door seals , if gaps in them they can suck exhaust fumes into the vehicle.

You haven't mentioned a check of/tightening of the injectors. The injectors are well known for working loose and causing fumes.

I had a similar problem with smell and fumes. Did lots of searching checking seals, a.c. radiator etc, even extended the exhaust tailpipe as I thought fumes could be coming in that way.
Its worth checking the top of the injectors for leaks as Multispacer has suggested. If they are leaking there is normally a chuffing noise from the engine and black deposits at the top of the injector/block interface.

In the end I found it was a leak from around the EGR valve. Trouble is you won't see it and its buried with fuel filter, air filter and battery in the way. I took time to make sure the EGR valve lined up perfectly and had a new metal gasket. Something to try when you have already eliminated the easier to solve other possible causes.
