Citroen berlingo multispace 1.6 hdi 2011 turbo advice

Hi all, 

I've got a Citroen Berlingo multispace 5 door 1.6 hdi which was registered in 2011. I'm wondering whether it is at risk of turbo failure due to carbon in the oil which blocks the gauze in the turbo pipe. My engine model number is DV6ETED9HN. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

If it's been serviced within the recommended service intervals with the recommended oil, a low SAPS oil such as Total Ineo Quartz 5W30 [other oils are also compatible] you should be fine. I make sure I change the oil at least once a year even if I haven't reached the service mileage and I'm running a 2008 1.6Hdi Berlingo Multispace XTR no turbo problems, although mine did develop a slight 'whistle' at higher speeds shortly after I bought it but that was over 7 years ago, so I don't think it's anything to worry about  Wink

Some people have removed the turbo gauze but I think that was only a problem in the early models of 1.6Hdi in the M59 Berlingo?

You don't mention what the mileage on your vehicle is but at that age the other thing to make sure is that the timing belt/water pump has been replaced [10 years or 100,000 miles is recommended]

Great, thanks for that advice and suggesting that the turbo gauze shouldn't be as much of an issue for the later B9 Berlingos.

The car has done about 70k miles, but as it's over 10 years old I'm planning on changing the timing belt as soon as I can.

Personally, were it mine, especially with it being a low average annual mileage van, I'd be looking to clean or replace the oil pickup gauze. I can see the argument either way though, it might be fine and never need it done.
Could be worse.... Could be a Caddy.

Thanks for this advice. I was originally planning on getting it cleaned when it goes in for a new timing belt, but then I read in a different thread that suggested the oil turbo issue was less of an issues for engines following DV6C (possibly because of a change to the turbo inlet and injectors?). I think if it's easy to access I'll get it looked at, but might be tempted to leave it as it is if it is an expensive repair. The car is working fine now, with no turbo related problems, and it would be nice to avoid a large bill just to confirm the gauze is clear and not a problem.
