If your battery has deep discharged, does the BSI prevent you from jump starting from another vehicle? Does it have some sort of wizardry going on, that it will continue to proffer its middle digit, gut laughing whilst it's DOS attack on the ignition persists?
Starting to seriously question my own sanity after having to disassemble bloody window mechanisms to shore up my windows to make my van secure, due to the bat s**t crazy electronics on these sodding vehicles. Would not allow me to put the windows up, yet other functions like locking and unlocking doors would work. Tried the holding down the lock button for ten seconds trick, and computer said "do one fool"
Economy mode on the display and engine management light on.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

when my battery died, a friend came with another car, put the jumper wires from his car to my car, then started his car, let his car charge my car's battery like 5mins, then stopped his car, and I started my car without any issue, then disconnected the jumper wires.

Have you tried starting the engine? I know that sounds daft but eco mode is always on after about 15 mins of having the ignition on but not running, then starting the engine resets it back to normal again. The dashboard ignition display will look funky in eco mode, with a flashing battery symbol and eml lit, but starting it still should work and puts things back in to normal. I.e. just start it and ignore the dash warning and lack of life in the clocks, it resets when the engine starts.
I feel a DOH moment coming (hopefully)
If you need to disconnect the battery or have run it dead, take it off and charge it up, then replace it. That generally works better than jump starting on these, though I have done the latter and it worked ok with a big jump pack and using the passenger inner wing earth stud (don't use the engine alloy bits)

Initially when I tried to start it, it made a clicking sound, as if attempting to turn the starter motor, when turning the ignition, but after about 5 attempts that stopped and all it would do was make a whirring sound which I think is the throttle body initialising. Now it just displays economy mode for about 10 seconds, then flashes the battery light and the engine light stays on. Almost as if it's in sleep mode and will not turn over let alone start

the clicking sound and not starting is the simptom of a dead battery (mine does the same thing!)
I suggest you get a new battery if you already checked the battery connectors (maybe are loose?!?)

Clicking can also be a sign of a bad earth or a stuck starter, have you had a meter on the battery to see what charge is in it ?
So where does this bit go then ?

Sent from my Pixel 6a using Tapatalk New battery fitted, and still not starting. Just bought a LEXIA interface. Given its PSA specific, will it tell me exactly what's f**ed and what needs to be fixed/replaced? Or is it a case of it spouting out mechanic-ese gobbledegook like the Bluetooth 3rd party obd2 reader?

It's a different animal to any off the shelf aftermarket nonsense. It will tell you what it finds, on all systems (maybe more than you wanted to see) and with each code, is a description. Note the codes, screenshot etc and then wipe every code, then it scans again, anything left is still there and still a problem.
It will tell you to put the ignition off for 30 secs when it's clearing codes, just follow the prompts and do exactly what it asks.
Remember for anything 2015 onwards you need to be using 9.68 as the older versions don't work. They say they are but they're not. Prior to that date, use 7.62
