Fuel problem ?
#1
Good evening gents , got a 2007 berlingo 1.6 diesel , car seems to cut out for a split second when you get in and drive away straight away , can do it a few times before it stops , seems to be worse in colder weather , had the fuel filter changed which may have helped a bit as it seemed to stop doing it , but now its started again , any ideas

Sounds like air in the fuel lines after sitting. Must be purging itself eventually until it sits again. Could be air getting in anywhere on the system.

On a car this age you can have cracks in rubber fuel lines anywhere, and corroded hard pipes. Difficult to know where it's coming from.

I thought it was going to be a fuel problem , somebody mentioned injector or glow plug fault , never thought about air getting in the lines

Just been told it could be the “hand pump “ , apparently they had problems with them disintergrating

Is that the priming thing for when you run out of fuel? If part of it is rubber, maybe the rubber has failed, allowing air in.

Yep, it's never the glow plugs as the HDi engines don't actually need them. They are useful to speed up warming and help in very deep cold temperatures like -10 downward but they aren't necessary to start the engine in a direct injection motor.

Going to have a look t the hand pump tomorrow , apparently if you squeeze it and it feels empty then you have a leak , will start with that and see where we go

If the system is sealed, the priming bulb should go rock hard after a few pumps. Maybe up to 10 in my experience. But on a good system it's likely only 5 before it's hard enough that you struggle to squeeze it.

Just checked the bulb and it doesnt get hard so as you cant pump it plus you can hear it or one of the pipes sucking air , or at least thats what it sounds like , so i will see if i can get one and replace it , then go from there
