Where is 2011 Berlingo parking sensor ECU?
#1
Hi, where exactly is the rear parking sensor ECU located and where does the output plug tap the main loom or does it connect to radio directly? If so, how many wires carry to radio console module? If it one wire ? is it a screen with a core or twin core?
Mine gone, but there a single long wire there I can see. Just looking into this.

Thanks all. E

It's in the rear, passenger side (UK) behind a panel.

There are no "wires" you can access, it communicates over CANBUS via the BSI which is the network bridge for all CAN networks in the car. There are several. The parking sensor ECU is on the 500kbps Comfort CAN network, along with the stereo and the central display unit.

Twisted pairs, in red & white, green & white or brown & white for example are the CANBUS wiring but each device in the car is on one of them, if you damage or connect anything to these which isn't a proper CAN device, you could shut the car down and it will not work.

The comfort CANBUS is the brown & white twisted set.

Thanks Zion, that is a great detailed answer.

The bumper on this van is a non-sensor one, so she must have got a small tip from behind at some stage. Its fine underneath, no impact or crush damage and very clean.

I might perhaps get a used sensor bumper complete and check the sensors prior to buying, I believe this can be done with a meter of which I have several. I will read up on it a bit more. There are magnetic wifi ones that use an app on phone now too, you can stop a mile outside where you intend to park, stick on camera, drive in park and remove. A lot of fellas in Ireland using these now.

I drove a high roof LWB transit for years and had no bother parking it but only got this wee berlingo few days ago and its been a while since I parked with just mirrors etc but will come back to me I'm sure. Once I get into the swing of it again, prob not need the sensors at all but they may be handy initially is all.

Thanks again Zion.

No worries mate. They don't all have parking sensors, they were optional. I had them on the previous van and loved them, this later one didn't have it so I fitted a rear camera built into the third brake light. Great bit of kit. The monitor is a grip-on to the mirror, so I fitted a second hand mirror and the monitor clips over that. Very strong grip. The kit was £100 from Dolphin Parking Systems.

You can't fit aftermarket sensors to your OEM parking ECU, and if it never had sensors then the ECU won't be there anyway. If it had sensors, you ideally need an OEM sensor bumper.

A van that had this from new would have a switch on the drivers side near the door with large P on it and a radar symbol (looks like WiFi symbol) so it can be turned off while pulling a trailer. No switch means it never had parking sensors to start with.
