[Steering & Suspension] Replacing Front Springs, 2004 Multispace HDi

Hi All,

I've got the dreaded broken left hand spring. It's been making an odd noise for a few days, I would have sworn it was the exhaust moving. Anyway, further inspection shows it to be a broken spring.

It's been about 25 years since I last replaced coil springs, and that was on a MK2 Escort with a mate when I was 14..

Has anyone got a decent walk-through for doing it - I will order the springs, I have some spring compressors. I don't have a Haynes, and I don't know what else I need.

I'm sure as hell not paying the £86+vat each for the springs, and £75+vat for new top mounts, + labour as recommended by the Citroen dealer. My local specialist has closed..

You could try having some made although it might not be any cheaper.

Im sure it was these people I tried for uprated springs for my bouncy C15 back in '05.
They wanted the originals as patterns (erm.. no-I'm using them right now!) and the price,although perfectly reasonable for a one-off job, wasnt really worth it for me.

FWIW i just had this done on a 2003 Multispace - cost was £123.33 + VAT all in to replace one front spring (Moss Tyres on Clifton Moor, York - local independents)...

I paid £286 inc VAT for two springs + top mounts + ARB hushes, fitted by my independent
