Shocking cost of a clutch
#1
Three years ago I had to have a clutch on my M59, was quoted prices from 1,200 to 1,500 by pretty well every one.
Bit the bullet and all was well.

The clutch on the M59 only lasted 70k miles because it was a town car used for towing.

Of late I'm looking for a B9 "upgrade" and my budget looks like it'll get me a 2013, with about 80k for about 8 grand!

Now personally I don't think an 80k B9 is worth anywhere near 8 grand especially given my experience with the cost of a clutch which I have confirmed for the B9 as being at least 1,200!

The B9 also has the eloys system and tank with DPF to consider as a possible added expense and at 10 years old it'll need a cam belt too, so how the F**k can a 10 year old B9 be "worth" 8 grand???

Rant over.

If it bothers you, go slightly older and look for one without the eloys system. The pre-facelift ones don't seem to have it. (they do have a DPF)

Clutch? 1200-1500 seems steep. Some models have a dual-mass flywheel, the kit that includes that can be had for about £300. If you have a solid flywheel, the kit is under £100.

Book labour is something like 7 hours. DIY is more - trust me on that. Sad

3 years ago paid 5900 for 63 plate b9 private sale with 90000 on it. Up to 11000 still on original clutch . Quoted 600 to replace clutch dual mass that I supply feel it’s coming soon.Definitely get the cam belt done.Sounds like you need to shop around.

The same could be said for a new one costing upwards of £25K. Mental

5 years ago I paid £13.5k for a bells and whistles C4 Picasso Grand that was ex motorbility. I traded it in this year and got £7k for it with over 90k miles on the clock. Clutch was slipping and that was £1800 to replace, Water pump had a leak so cambelt and waterpump was just over a grand and then i suspect i would have been looking to replace the Eolys and possible DPF in the next 15k.

Traded against a Dacia Jogger as C4GP's were all 20 grand upwards for a good one - the Dacia was £19.5k ex showroom model with all boxes ticked so cost me £12k for a new on the road vehicle - dealership even filled the tank for me for the journey home.

0.9litre 3 cylinder turbo charged petrol - produces same BHP as the C4GP, about 1 sec 0-60 quicker. Not short on in car toys, heated seats, Satnav etc.

Best bit - I get around 8-9MPG better out of that than I did the 1.6 Hdi

Might be worth looking at car auctions, where prices can be cheaper.  Price can also be affected quite significantly by where in the country the vehicle is being sold - see here: https://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/...ull/288231

Wrong on the Eolys / DPF. No DPF means no Eolys system. Legally required from 2010 on all vehicles so only the first two years of B9 had neither. So to get one with no DPF you're looking at a 08, 09 and maybe an 09 build registered in 10 at the latest before March.

I paid £10k for a 2017 van with 60k on it a year ago. They're just getting dearer. Impending ev carry on.

Then I must be confising Adblue and Eloys, sorry.

(there's no small, additional filler under the filler flap)

That's likely mate, the Adblue is only on the facelift ones. It's for NOx emissions.
