[Warning Light] Scanner not connecting
#1
Hi All
Just got a 2014  Berlingo 16.diesel  Van, I’m connecting my TopDon scanner to the OBD Port but it’s not recognising the Van.
The scanner works on My Santa Fe. So doubtful it’s the scanner
Any thoughts as to what it could be.
Thanks
Johnny

Could be one of the OBD power fuses is blown, see below. But it uses 3 different buses and your TopDon may not be checking the correct protocols. These cars are not usable with most aftermarket scanners.

CAN Inter-system 500k (6&14), CAN diagnostic 250k (3&8) and K-LINE (7) all used together on the Citroen BSI at the OBD connector. Most other cars only use one bus for everything. Citroen have the diagnostic bus on different pins. Still complies with the OBD rules by having "emissions readiness" data on the "normal" pins of 6&14. This is why most scanners fail to connect or work. Wrong pins and often wrong CAN speeds used.

Engine fusebox 2

Got it sorted!
The fuse for the Obd port had oxidised in the holder, new fuse & some electrical cleaner in the socket & hey Presto it worked.
Just to find out what the error codes relate too now
Thanks for your help

Hi the fault codes are as follows.

P0693 fan unit short circuit to earth

P1536 measurement of the brake pedal position. In coherence between the 2 brake sensors detected under deceleration

U1213 inter system Can. one of the parameters present in a data stream sent by by the ABS/ESP

U1318 intersystems Can. Error of lengths of prohibited value of the data stream transmitted by the built in interface

Thanks again for your help
Appreciated

The fan unit code is likely a failed fan controller, it's bolted to the front upper drivers side of the radiator frame, between it and the front grill.

Next: Citroen info:
***********************************
INFORMATION : FAULT CODE U1213 ( AUTOMATIC GEARBOX)
AUTOMATIC GEARBOX AT8 OR AUTO GEARBOX AL4
Automatic transmission control unit utomatic transmission control unit
Fault code   U1213
After sales description of the fault code   ESP function fault : Coherence
Description of the diagnostics   ESP system fault
Fault confirmation time : Immediate
Context of appearance of the fault code   The following conditions have to be met
- engine running
- Vehicle in motion
Technical precision on the context of
appearance of the fault code
Check that there are no fault codes
- U1003 (CAN communication fault (Missing/interference) : No signal)
- U1113 (Fault in communication between the automatic gearbox
(BVA) and the ABS/ASR (ESP) : No signal)
Conditions of disappearance of the fault   -
Down-grade modes if fault present   No taking into account of the requests from the ESP
Switching on of the warning light and/or
warning message
-
Suspect areas   ABS/ESP ECU Main harness
Automatic transmission control unit
Engine ECU
***********************************

INFORMATION : FAULT CODE U1318 (ABS ECU )
Control unit ABS BOSCH 8.1 ontrol unit ABS BOSCH 8.1
Fault code   U1318
After sales description of the fault code   Fault absence of communication with the built-in systems
interface (BSI ) : No signal
Description of the diagnostics:   The time for recording the fault code is 1000 milliseconds - Incoherent data coming from the built-in systems interface
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics:   Ignition on
Conditions of disappearance of the fault:  Consistent data from the BSI

Down-grade modes if fault present   -   switching on of the warning light and/or warning message
-
Suspect areas:   BSI connection plugs or corrupted software
Connectors
CAN wiring
ABS ECU
***********************************
So it sounds like you have a bad ABS controller, corrupting the CAN data in the IS CAN system.

Could however be a wiring fault too. None of these are obvious nor may be easy to find.
