Ignition key refurb
#1
The only key that came with vehicle is falling apart.  I've bought a fleabay replacement and the internal moulding matches precisely so I'm confident of swapping the electronics over.  However the cut key itself looks like it's attached by a spring pin that can be driven or drilled out, before I attempt to swap them over can anybody confirm that is the case otherwise I'll have to take it to a cutter.

Yes I've changed blades before. Beware the flip-mechanism needs to be pre tensioned or it doesn't work. Holding the blade half out helps keep it where it is while the lid is taken off. If the spring loaded bit jumps out, you will spend an entire evening trying to fix it. If you can find the bits which sprang out...

The pin is pushed out and the blade swapped then push that roll pin back in again. Needs force to remove.

Solution: take it to Zion, ply him with coffee, as him to do it!

I'd hope he'd want a bit more than coffee. Wink

I got in trouble for punching the pin out on our bedside cabinet and making tiny dents in it...'er indoors never got over that.

Best thing to do is find something with a hole in it, which matches up with the pin position, like a piece of wood (not a bedside cabinet of course) and drift the pin out with a small hard nail / panel pin. The the reverse is pretty straightforward, get some needle nose pliers to hold it while it's tapped back in.
