Knocking noise and feeling through steering wheel
#1
Not going so well with the new purchase lol, the vans now developed a knocking noise and feeling through the steering wheel. More noticeable when moving away or slowing down. Doesn't really do it when turning, or I've not noticed. It's like a clunk, clunk not overly loud. But definitely a new sound. Any ideas? It's at the garage 3rd of November for the timing belt and water pump etc.

Strut tops? CV joint? That's what I'd look at first.

It's the sort of thing that can only really be diagnosed in person with a big crowbar. Smile

A "clunk" on moving away AND when slowing down, is more likely to be the lower arms' rear bush, what you would call the wishbone.

Also I'd do them as a pair along with the drop links, fitting complete arms and not messing with trying to fit a new bush. As the ball joints are also likely to be worn out on the lower arms too.

My lower arm rear bush on the drivers side was picked up back in July in the MOT and now has started to clunk, exactly as you describe.

I've had this loads of times on older cars. It's that bush, 100%. Very noticeable on hitting a ridge pulling into your driveway or over a speed bump.

Possible problems for what you're describing include...

Engine Mounts

Strut top bearing mounts

or the very common [and cheap and easy to replace] drop links on the front suspension.

Of course it may not be any of these, other problems are available on Citroens  Wink

Thanks, I'll suggest this to the mechanic.
