2011 B9 noise at 50-60mph
#1
Hi guys,

Today I managed to drive my 2011 B9 with 1.6 diesel engine and 5mt manual gearbox to the seaside for a short relax, but I find it is much more noisy if I drive between 50 and 60 mph. When driving in urban routes at 30 its noise is as much as before, and after I accelerate over 60 until 70, the noisy is much less than 50-60 and also normal as usual. The noisy is from the front of the car, and sounds like a fan but much more noisy. It is 2000rpm at that speed, but I tried to keep it at 2000rpm at 3rd gear at 30mph, there is no this kind of noise. My van is abandoned for nearly 1 month due to my international licence is expired, during this month I only start the engine every week to keep the electricity in the battery and during my last trip in late September from Glasgow to Aberdeen and then back, everything was ok. Do anyone know what's going on with my van? Thank you very much.

Could be a wheel bearing, does it get noisier when turning corners at speed or quieter?

Or the under engine plastic tray loose and vibrating with the airflow under the car.

Hard to tell without hearing it

That would be my first thought.

As always, no substitute for in-person checks though.

Today its getting worse, the noise starts from 35mph, and still become normal over 60mph. The noise is the same regardless of turning corners or going straight on. I'll find a garage to check tomorrow. Thank you.
