Check engine query.
#1
Took my Nemo Multispace 1.4 diesel for a quick run down the local by-pass this morning in preparation for a MOT. I mainly only use the vehicle locally for popping into town and general pottering about.

I had already checked the engine oil and water levels, checked the tyres, lights, wipers and washers etc  Everything all OK. Just wanted to ensure there was no black smoke coming from the exhaust. I accelerated through the gears until reaching 60mph in third gear and held it there for a short distance ( approx 100 yards or so ). When I did this there was a beep and the engine light illuminated and stayed on. I pulled into a layby and the LCD display screen was saying Check Engine.

I lifted the bonnet checked the oil and water levels again all OK. No signs of engine running rough or overheating. I returned home, a distance of around three miles. I turned the ignition off and back on again but the engine light was still illuminated after restarting. I turned the ignition off and went inside the house to get a code reader. I plugged the code reader into the OBD socket but no codes were stored or found.

I removed the code reader and started the car, this time the engine light did not stay illuminated, it went out after the engine started.

I haven`t taken the car for another run since but is this something I should look further into? Is the light illuminating a cause for concern?

Many thanks in anticipation Wink

It's certainly something to find out about but generic code readers won't find much on a PSA car, we've discussed this at length on the forum.

Even most engine fault codes are not reachable with a basic obd reader. These are designed for iso readiness codes and that's about all. PSA do not put their engine faults on the pins used by these devices.

Many thanks Zion for your reply and the contents enclosed, greatly appreciated Wink

I can confirm it was a basic code reader I used. I do however possess an iCarsoft Pro code reader and will check to see if this reader highlights any codes.

Took the Nemo for a MOT and have done around 30 miles without any problems Smile

Good to hear, it could have been something and nothing.
