Zion ... Diagbox 9.68 Free - Mr Rorry
#1
I suppose this is aimed at Zion specifically.

By the way thanks for the posting about Mr Rorry Diagbox 9.68  ....... both links worked, takes a while to convert itself but gets there.

I have a question or three :

1/   I downloaded the .nz file and also the VMWare Player but I cannot open the .NZ file ?

When trying to open the file with vmware I'm asked to input a code which I do not have, how do I get the code please ?

2/  Do I need to create an account with Mega ?

Thank you

open this link: https://mega.nz/folder/FwMkSZJa#tzQszuFExpXxDYEb3Hy43Q

then on the file diagbox968 click on the 3 dots click download click standard download
after that in the bottom left corner you will have a window that shows transfers in progress blabla, wait for it to finish then you will have a browser file download to save the file.

next extrat .7z file and you should have DiagBox968_for_Free_Fantomel folder, in this folder you have Diagbox_968_Free.vmx that can be imported in vmware workstation player (if it complains something about version then you need to edit the Diagbox_968_Free.vmx and replace the virtualHW.version = "xx" with virtualHW.version = "8" then save the file)

Thanks @deejay_xb, for putting that info up.

Yes @geoff, you need to download the .7z file, its a zipped archive, the free software called 7-Zip will unpack it, just install that and then right-click the .7z archive, select 7-Zip > Extract To Here (or similar) and a folder will be created, do it inside a folder of your own making so it doesn't just expand into the downloads folder, and then look for the VMX file, and load that into VMWare player, if it asks you, select "I moved it"

Does this still work?
Id like to give it a go but all my computers are coal-dust powered-would it work with 4gb ram and a Core2Quad cpu
Does it require a specific operating system on the laptop?
What interface is used to connect to the car-a simple usb-to-obd cable?
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Does it work ?

I downloaded it all and got a successful installation but then it all fell apart ….

Why - because my laptop doesn’t have enough oomph @ 4 gig ram

I’ve been looking to buy a new laptop for a while now but have been putting it off for the latest O.S to become available.

Connection ?

I have one of the Diagbox clone cables though not the. Diagbox software to go with it hence me trying the Mr Rorry version.

My jury is still out for now.

Thanks.
I thought with a virtual machine it should run on any host.
That's a similar situation for me as I would need a new laptop but not willing to shell out for something I wouldn't use for much else -a few old linux desktops,a win8 laptop, an Amazon tablet and an Android phone cover all bases at present.
Maybe something like an icarsoft would be better.
It is on my to do list.

The VM will indeed run on any host, with my laptop the software and VM was so hungry it gobbled up all the ability to do anything with it.

The host - my reason for waiting for the latest Windows O.S. was to not be buying a new machine that would run out of “ support “ much sooner than the latest version - I hate spending hence the wanting to future proof as much as possible.

I totally agree
I gave up on Microsoft a long time ago for that reason ,keeping only the laptop for the GPS software that needed it at the time.
Linux otherwise does everything I need (and for free).
It's liberating not to be enslaved to big corporations for everything.
The phone does the  away from home stuff and the tablet takes over indoors for general internet use.
It is on my to do list.
