B9 wheel alignment data
#1
Hi guys,
Recently due to I changed the wheel bearing, I went to do a wheel alignment. However, I find the caster angel of both front wheels and the camber of left rear wheel is not in the green zone, and kwik fit said this is not adjustable. I went to a garage later and got the same answer. For the rear camber the miss is not so much, but for the caster its much much smaller than normal and I think a normal caster angel can make motorway driving more comfortable. The missing is so big especially for the right front wheel. Do you guys know why there is so much different from normal? And how can I solve this problem? Thank you very much.

Possibly the wheel has been kerbed hard or pot-holed at one point, knocking the wishbone and deforming it slightly. Or the strut is slightly bent etc.

Hard to say. I would have thought a good garage could take some measurements and figure out what's up. Maybe try a body shop? They are more experienced with the alignment of parts.

Explain what's up and see if they can help, try a bigger accident repair place, not a corner shop panel beater for example. Bigger places have laser alignment jigs etc. If something is off, maybe they can advise, or pull it back into alignment.

Or if it drives ok, and isn't eating tyres, maybe it's at an acceptable level to live with.

There isn't any real adjustability in the front suspension other than toe angle. That leave two things, damage as sol mentions, or wear. You need to take a good close look at the condition of the balljoints, lower arms and bushes, and the top mounts. Wear in these parts can add up.

One thing worth trying for yourself as it's free - check that all the wheels are straight and true.
