Hallo Berlingo fans
#1
Hallo everyone.

My name is Leon, 31 from the Netherlands. After 10 years of playing around with small Fiats it was time to grow up Wink
Well just needed a practical car. So i bought a 2003 berlingo van with the 1.4 petrol engine.

It's a bit of a fixer but it was cheap. And the petrol version is rare here. The speedo isn't working. already replaced the sensor so i orderd a steppermotor for the instrument panel.
Also the rear beam needs a rebuilt.

Hello and welcome! From the year, your model should be a M59 model, so the sub-forum for that model is where you can probably get the most information and ask any questions. I've owned both an M59 model and now a B9 model and I can honestly say, I preferred my M59 [which was 2007 one of the last years made] and I would still probably have it had someone not run into the rear of me while I was stationary in a traffic queue.

Coming from FIAT, you'll notice one thing in common the electrical wiring on both Italian and French cars is pretty rubbish  Wink [I've had FIATs in the past as well as a number of various Citroens and all had wiring problems during my time of ownership]

Welcome Leon. I've had two M59s, a 1.6L and a 1.4L. If you don't drive fully loaded all the time, the 1.4L is just as capable as the 1.6L and more economical, so do not feel you made the wrong choice. Over here, 1.4Ls fetch high prices now.

A tip for the speedo: if you end up replacing the instrument cluster, make sure that the one you buy has a lower total distance driven figure recorded on it than your car has done. Ask the seller, if they cannot answer, go elsewhere.

Both the car and the cluster independently store that information, and if ever a new cluster is installed, whichever of the two figures is higher will be written permanently into both the cluster and your car. This is to prevent them being 'clocked'.

Thanks for the welcome and the tips. Bit off a false start with my berlingo life, having some electronic issues.
