Fan still running after ignition off
#1
So iv not long had the van berlingo 1.6 diesel and had the issue with the fan running for 10 to 15 min every time i turn off ignition. Kicks in even if i drive from cold 1 min up the road stop. Its on. I can wait for it to go off. Drive another 2 min up road turn ignition off and its on again. Even if i just start car for a min and turn off its going again. Went and paid to have the dpf gutted out and mapped out incase it was this. No still doing it. I have noticed the ambiant temprature on dash just has 5 dashes on it like this -----.   Iv just read that some one had a similar problem on a difrent van and there ambiant temprature sensor was faulty showing higher temps and they also had a issue with fan. After charging the sensor in the drivers mirror it sorted the fan issue  is it worth trying that could that make the fan run if its faulty.

If you have the dashes for the ambient temperature, as you describe showing "- - -" then the car or van will not regenerate the DPF and this would have been causing issues like "risk of clogging" etc, it's possible this is why the fan is running on, we have someone else with the same issue (fan running on) and he did not mention this about his outside temperature sensor, but I know the DPF system will not work to clean itself of the outside temp is not reading on the dash display.

The sensor is in the bottom of the drivers side mirror and is easy to change, get one off eBay. If yours doesn't have a separate plug, then just cut the wires and splice the new one in, it should work either way round. The glass pulls off, just tilt it until you can get your fingers behind it, theres a central ball joint mount. Pop it off and the sensor is accessible then. The glass just oops back on again.

Failing that if it's not the issue, there's a controller for the fan mounted on the radiator cowling, top left hand side.

Thanks will try that. It was probably me i started a new post probably should have just posted in the original post sorry. Didnt realise the dash was missing the temprature untill yesterday. Had all the dpf mapped out and didnt sort the issue. I will try the ambiant temp sensor today hopefully is that. Tried messaging a few people on facebook who are selling berlingos same year and i dont seem to be the only one with same issue of the fan running and killing battery

Will be the black pair of wires, yeah looks like it but behind the plastic cover inside the car, triangle shaped bit where the mirror bolts on to the door, there could be two plugs. One with black wires and one with the coloured ones for the mirror motor.

If there's no plug, then it's splicing time. Leave maximum wire length of the old ones if you are joining in a new one but make sure the wires can't snag on the mirror glass motor.

Can you measure the resistance of the sensor? If you have a meter. It's possible it doesn't make it all the way to ECU. Broken wire etc further in.

If we can dig up the schematics, then you could measure at the sensor, let's say you get around 100 ohms (the actual value will depend on the temperature) then trace farther back and see the same resistance - when it vanishes, you have the break in the wires ahead of you.
