#1

i have a 2016 b9 with a touchscreen dab radio (no nav) and i.... hate it. can it be swapped for a normal radio with the additional display above to retain mpg, range functionality etc?

Yes no problem. I do recomend the Teyes cc2 or cc3 9" on aliexpress.

But you can use what ever you want. Just remember to buy ctspg0072 and ctmultilead kabel kit if you buy kenwood, pioneer, alpine etc.

Without the kits Tikki mentions, you lose the ability to set the clock or use the menus. And those kits are expensive. Connects2 is the manufacturer.

You need a new multiline display and surround frame when the big touchscreen is removed and replaced with the standard upper display. Even then it will need those adaptor kits or it will just flash "00:00" and "Jan 1st 2007" or similar for ever. Also could need the new display coded with Diagbox, never tried going that route from the double din to centre display.

Tikki makes it sound easy. It can be if you have the kit and know what you're doing, or pay someone who does, to do it.

as i feared, i dont think this is going to be worth the trouble and expense to bother doing. i'll have to try and get the dab signal sorted at the very least though to be able to put up with this god awful thing Sad

You can get a dab add-on unit from Halfords, the "Pure Highway", it comes with all you need and is less than the cost of one Connects2 adaptor harness.

Also worth remembering that not all dab bands are receivable everywhere, and most are region specific so read up on what is locally available to you. Folk think dab will bring hundreds of channels no matter where you are, and that's not the case.

Where I am, even in a city, only two bands work and on those there are about 10 stations. The default bands of my dab head unit had zero reception, had to go all the way to 12D or something to get anything, then bam 8 local & national stations on one transponder channel.

Hi,
mine picks up zero dab stations but the base from audio is really distorted at normal to high volumes. Do I presume that there is a seperate base amplifier/unit?
if so where is it located as might be able to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Please start a thread of your own for your issues. It detracts from the person's thread they started,  it's not cool to jump onto someone elses one. Replies get confusing.
