Exhaust?
#1
Hi guys,

I have noticed whilst driving that it sounds like my exhaust is blowing as it sounds really deep and throaty inside the car, but outside the car it sounds normal, i hear it in all gears apart from when she is cruising in gear 5, it almost sounds like i have a cherry bomb fitted to the exhaust, but all the sound is on the inside.....its a wierd one.
Any help/knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!!

Think I saw someone else mention on here that the exhausts on 2003/4ish models and earlier may be reaching the end of their natural lives in many cases about now. I recently had to have mine replaced (53 plate). Similar noises to those you describe, then it separated completely/broke, from corrosion at the joint just to the front of the back box :-(

Not sure what to suggest except have a bit of a poke around underneath...

I thought my exhaust was blowing but I couldn't see where from and it was getting louder. A sort of throaty growl. It was really puzzling me then last night I lifted up the bonnet and whilst the engine was running I peered around. By chance I pit my hand on the air intake pipe leading from the grill to the air filter and hey presto no noise. To make it a more permanent fix I got a surgical glove and cut off the wrist bit. Slid that over one pipe then reassembled.

I can only hear the noise inside the vehicle not outside, sounds like a cherry bomb inside the car, its wierd!!

Possibly because the exhaust is blowing directly onto the underside of
the floor of the car and the floor is resonating to the impulses.

(That sounds much more complicated than it really is.) Confusedcratch:

SORTED, had a new clamp and paste around the middle section and adjusted the back box which had come off one of the rubbers, sounds fine now!!
