Hi this is for my 1.6 HDi 2007 DV6ATED
I presume there is a fuel pressure regulator as part of the fuel injection system, I'd expect there to be one anyway.
Anyone know where this regulator is, can it be stripped, checked, cleaned etc ?
Reason for asking is over a period of time I've been having P0087 and P0093 fuel pressure type faults with the vehicle stalling when moving off in slow moving traffic, on the open road it is fine and goes like a bomb. Generic tester gives the above codes, dash shows " anti pollution fault "
Things I've done :
New fuel filter 2 weeks ago
Injector leak off test done a couple of weeks back, all looks good, photo attached
New common rail sensor fitted maybe a year ago, bought from local motor factors
I can live with it but my wife cannot so I'm under the cosh somewhat !
Info on PRV welcomed as would be any useful ideas to get a resolution

I expect (and this is an educated guess) that the pressure regulation is handled by the HP pump for the rail. I have never heard of a pressure regulator as a separate item on the 1.6 HDi.
I'd then be looking at the pump for the source of your issues. What does the rail pressure measure at idle? Should be 270-300 bar. And 1800 bar at full pelt.
If you have Diagbox, you can log real-time data from up to 6 sensors at a time, from memory.

PRV being integral to the pump that is what I feared
I don't have Diagbox unfortunately
Rail pressure - I have hydraulic test equipment from my days of working on industrial hydraulics so will have a look at connecting that and see what happens.
Had a quick look at the system and think the only place to connect test equipment is at the pressure sensor point on the rail ?
My only thought there is that the sealing washer would need to be replaced on each removal ?
When I worked on high purity gasses we had similar sealing arrangements that required a new seal each time, anyone know if this is the case with the common rail ??
A new pump was also another of my fears - doable I can undertake the work myself ( outdoors ) but not desirable especially at this time of year .. Lol !
Expensive operation too so maybe a used pump ?

Hi geoff, yeah with those pressures I expect a new washer would be required each time, but then again for you to measure the pressure with gauges, the engine would not run due to the pressure sensor not sending data. If you could tee into the hardpipe to injector junction, that would work but not sure what the fitting sizes or types are. No doubt there is a tee available in some corner of the hydraulic world.
Also the PS is in a shitty spot on the rear of the engine, under the rail and pinned down by a bracket for the air filter housing or the EGR pipe or something.
A used pump may be the cheapest option, and no coding required nor timing.
Now I think of it, there may be a procedure to test fuel pressure in ServiceBox, let me have a look and I'll post it here.
Final thought on the stalling issue, and this may save you a load of hassle...it is likely to be the MAF sensor and not the fuel pressure. This is classic MAF failure mode, idle ok then cut out on pulling away.
Disconnect the MAF with the engine off, then start it and see if it drives fine without it, you may or may not get an engine warning light but ignore that for now. See if this cures the stalling issue, then change the MAF if it does.

Not thought of MAF so will give it a go, I love the quick and free checks as they help to focus down on the isssues.
As regards the sensor, if I need to buy a new sealing washer I'll probably end up having to buy a new sensor to go with it .... will try to get hold of a couple of washers first though ( after a MAF test of course )
I'm quietly chugging away with this on a sort of slow burn and see how it goes basis ..... I tend to spend slowly as well Lol !!
MAF now disconnected
Vehicle runs well without MAF - accelerates strongly and revs hard
No dash faults as yet but behind the scenes I see the car has developed P0104 and P0113 though there is no issue with running, didn't have these faults before so they are indeed a consequence of MAF disconnection
Not had a stall yet despite trying to get one in slow town traffic ... will watch this space as too soon to tell for sure yet.
In the meantime and in case it helps others I've been spare parts searching to get ahead of any game that crops up .......
I've found the sensor sealing washer has part number 1920TG and is available on eBay
Prices do vary a lot but this is the cheapest I've seen @ £ 2.94 posted item number : 334597132114
I've bought two of them
My Main dealer has moved over 30 miles away so didn't bother using them as fuel to collect would have made it foolhardy to do so.
Will when I get time see what the sensor threads are and if I have an adaptor will test rail pressure, Sol if you have the test procedure I'll be pleased to see it
For interests sake the sensor part number is 1920GW
Note that lots of online sellers sellers don't supply it with the sealing washer so do check prior to purchase, you will need a new washer each and every time the sensor is removed. When I fitted one a year ago it was from the local motor factors and theirs came with the washer, again always best to check.
Whilst on a parts search I also noted the MAF has part number 1920GV and according to CATCAR number is replaced by 1610874680

Ok so it sounds like the MAF is (was) the issue? Try it for a while like this and let me know.
There are no procedures for testing fuel pressure BUT there are plenty on other aspects, will post here for info: (these are for your model and year but the VIN wasn't found so I picked the closest thing manually - any errors, let me know.)

Ok so I'm back earlier than expected ... an update ....
Vehicle runs really well without any sign of a stall / cut out when moving off after being in traffic / pottering about.
Seems like Sol has hit the nail on the head when he suggested the MAF sensor.
I've ordered a new one just now from eBay for £39 .... item : 331011332584 will arrive in a few days

Sods law struck which is why I'm home early the vehicle developed a coolant leak and as I had two ancient Labradors in the back I didn't want to take any chances staying away longer.
Driving along and the heater temp went down and the temp gauge dropped by a third - instantly I knew there was a water leak so stopped straight away.
Found the header tank empty and used water from a ditch to top it up in order to get the last few miles to destination.
Anyway will address this in another topic, cheerio for now.
