Engine fault triangle when idle - solved
#1
Hello

I have a 1,6hdi 2013. 280.000 km on the clock. It shows a strange fault. When I start the engine, the service triangle lit after 8-10 seconds - central display says “engine fault” and it go to limp mode. No OBD error codes. If I start the motor, and drive before all the warning lights has gone, I don’t get any error - or limp mode - before I stop for 8-10 seconds with the motor ideling. Breake fluid an colant is ok. The additive for the particle filter was topped up 10.000 km. before this error. I have changed the diesel filter - no difference. Any idear or qualifyed guess to what might cause this error is very welcome. Thanks in advance.

You need to scan the car for codes, using Diagbox or a professional scan tool such as Autel MaxiDiag, TopDon, SnapOn etc and find out why this is happening.

Engine Fault and the yellow triangle is used for a great many things, not just servicing. Combined with limp mode, it can be an injector fault, fuel pressure issue, boost issue, lots of things, impossible to know without scanning with the correct tools.

Generic OBD tools from the local store will not work.

Thanks - I have had hoped, that the combination idle/fault and full speed/no fault could decrease the number of posibilities or had been experienced by another forum user.

The information on which faults this could be, is all in here. See the resources I have posted about the potential issues. You still need the fault codes or you are still guessing, with less possibilities:

The fault is located to the coling fan control box placed in front of the radiator. Anyone who can figure out the logic idle/fault and more than 1200 rpm/no fault?
Bonus info: The control box would only let the fan run with double speed.
